Michael Friedman

Michael Friedman is a media consultant specializing in the book publishing industry. With over 45 years’ experience, Michael has worked in a variety of positions, from owning his own publishing company, the Michael Friedman Group, to being president of the Barnes & Noble Publishing Group and, finally, founding his own consulting business.

In 1977, Michael started the Michael Friedman Publishing Group, a company devoted to

creating and producing popular, illustrated adult and children’s books. In 1990, the Friedman Group was acquired by Marinya Holdings, a media company in Sydney, Australia owned by John Fairfax.

Two acquisitions were made at that time, both initiated by Michael: first, Spark Notes and then, eventually, Sterling Publishing.

Sarah Elizabeth Hill

In 2018 Sarah Hill left the company she co-founded, Bookstr.com, a consumer, digital media company focused on readers to start Bobi Media. She famously grew the Bookstr audience from 0 to 3.5 million organic global social media followers and led the company’s charge to over six million organic average video views a month on platforms. There she secured content partnerships with the Big Five Publishers like HarperCollins.

During this time Sarah worked on behalf of her Australian investors to secure more investment in the United States and to find acquisition candidates in the global media market.

It was at Bookstr where Sarah interviewed over 100 authors about their fiction & non-fiction books in a regular Facebook Live show (Deepak Chopra, Tony Robbins, Bethany Mota, Neil deGrasse Tyson + more), and where she learned first-hand the value of media and influencers when it comes to selling products and building revenue. Simultaneously, she was the Online Anchor of Entertainment and Business segments on BOLD TV.

Sarah previously worked in media with clients including Nike, HBO, Chobani, Eloqua, Google Politics, and more with L.A.-based design agency, JESS3. In 2019 Sarah was the Digital Community Manager for Metlife Stadium’s Super Bowl. Before digital media, Sarah worked in News Production and Public Relations with the international news network, Al Jazeera English — where she first worked with a mass audience across global sectors.

She has served on numerous non-profit boards, most currently, KR3TS, a dance company in East Harlem. Outside of work Sarah enjoys exploring New York City, traveling, working out, reading, and spending time with her dog, Hudson.

Sarah grew up in Fort Worth, Texas. She received a B.A. in Professional Writing, graduating with Honors from The University of Oklahoma. In 2017 she was named Young Alumni of the Year by her College, The Gaylord College of Journalism and Mass Communication. In May 2023, she had the honor of being the Convocation Speaker for the 2023 graduating class.
